I have removed the abstract now from CORA https://cora.ucc.ie/handle/10468/2706and will also notify our cataloguing staff to keep the abstract out of the library catalogue. The embargo letter which was provided to the Graduate Studies Office is attached here and does not mention placing an embargo on the thesis abstract. The “Decision to withhold e-thesis from repository” form is required by the Graduate Studies Office for those who are withholding their entire e-thesis from the repository. Embargoes are set by the student in CORA during submission of the abstract. There is currently no option to request an embargo on an abstract in CORA because it is highly unusual for an abstract to be withheld from the repository or the library catalogue. Generally students will contact us via e-mail if there are any issues which are not catered for in the submission e.g. missing supervisor names, changing an embargo etc. but we did not receive such an instruction here. I apologise for the disappointment this confusion has caused. We are seeking to make changes to doctoral thesis submission process which should simplify the procedure for students. I note that Dr. Falvey has not requested an embargo on the hard copy thesis which she would have submitted in advance of her conferring. You may not be aware that hard bound theses once listed in our library catalogue and archived in Special Collections can be requested by users from other libraries through an inter library loan request unless an embargo has been requested on the hard bound thesis. You might let me know if you would like an embargo to be placed on the hard bound thesis. An embargo letter, was given to the graduate studies office and Dr Falvey said that she checked that it was embargoed upon submission so that shouldn't have gone online. Can you please remove this abstract, Best regards, Sharon Dr. Sharon McKenna Principal Investigator Cork Cancer Research Centre 4th Floor Western Gateway University College Cork Western Road Cork.
