Abstract
In 1922, the new Free State inherited an educational system which was un-coordinated and fractured, with three different Boards responsible for the three separate sectors of education - primary (national) education; intermediate (secondary education) and technical education. In 1924, the three sectors were brought together with one Minister and a single Department of Education (Minister and Secretaries’ Act, 1924).
