The associative practice in Chile has been historically intense. During the 19th century, there was active participation of various associations in different areas, including education, social assistance, housing, infant mortality, malnutrition, etc. In the last century, associativism was expressed in trade unions, students' associations, local and rural organizations and religious groups.1 Many services that are currently in the realm of the state were initially the responsibility of private associations, such as education and childcare. Today, in all of them, the participation of people through civil society organizations continues to be active.en
