dc.description.abstractAnna Maria Ortese's L'iguana is one of the most enigmatic pieces of her entire work. At the National Archive of Naples, where all Ortese's unpublished works are kept, one may find a large collection of papers on L'iguana: scraps, notes and several discarded finals. Initially, in 1963, eight chapters of the book were published by the magazine "Mondo". L'iguana went through a difficult destiny: three different publishing houses contended over its publication, and finally the novel was published by Vallecchi Editions in 1965. Later on, in 1980, Ortese wrote to Natalia Ginzburg, mentioning a "new version of Iguana, entitled Miseria e solitudine di una Iguana" (Spadaccini, Archivio di Stato di Napoli, 2006, doc. 54). The present study starts from the editorial case of the novel, passing through the investigation of the original papers from Fondo Ortese: our attempt is to examine Anna Maria Ortese's modus operandi, taking in consideration the different editions, revisions and the discarded finals. In order to get a better understanding of this mysterious and grotesque novel, we will follow the notes written by the author, marking the history of the author's scraps, the reasons which led Ortese to the different ending.en
dc.description.abstractOpera simbolo di Anna Maria Ortese, L'iguana e uno dei testi piu enigmatici della sua intera produzione. Le carte conservate all'Archivio di Stato di Napoli presentano una numerosa quanto curiosissima mole di scelte editoriali scartate, pastille, rimaneggiamenti e finali bocciati. Nel '63, i primi otto capitoli de L'iguana vennero pubblicati sulla rivista "Mondo", dopodiche ii testo ando incontro a un complicato destino: combattuto da ben tre case editrici, lo troveremo infine in versione integrale nel catalogo della Vallecchi, nel '65. In una lettera dell'80, Anna Maria Ortese informa Natalia Ginzburg di una "Iguana versione nuova, ii cui titolo e diventato: 'Miseria e solitudine di una lguana111 (Spadaccini, Archivio di Stato, 2006: doc. 54). II suddetto studio prende avvio dalla travagliata storia editoriale del testo, e prosegue con un'attenta indagine degli autografi del Fondo Ortese: attraverso le carte autografe, tenteremo di esaminare ii modus operandi di Anna Maria Ortese, approcciandoci alle varianti, alle correzioni e ai finali bocciati e giungendo cos1 all'ultima edizione adelphiana. Seguiremo inoltre le note esplicative della scrittrice sugli autografi, tracciando quindi la storia degli scarti d'autore, i motivi sottesi che hanno portato Ortese a una pluralita di finali, venendo a capo di quello che risulta, ancor oggi, un testo ambiguo e grottesco, dalle molteplici nature e sfaccettature.it
