Abstract
With the examination which has been shown in the literature to the changing Higher Education landscape, limited attention has been given to the impact of institutional change at the micro level in examining how the influence of government policy has impacted the roles and responsibilities of academic staff. This chapter addresses this gap and examines the particular experience of academics employed in the university in Ireland between 2008–2014 when the sector experienced increased government oversight, the development of significant accountability mechanisms and increased public sector scrutiny.
