Abstract
These notes concentrate on three churches-the daimliag, Temple Kelly and Temple Ciarán-for reasons that will, I hope, become sufficiently clear. As my treatment is based primarily on documentary sources rather than on architectural or archaeological evidence, I also hope that the notes, mainly annalistic, will complement previously published work. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity of consulting Annette Kehnel's work. I have searched eleven sets of annals for the period 550 to 1200: the Annals of Ulster (AU); the Annals of Tigernach (A. Tig.); the Annals of Inisfallen (AI); the Annals of Loch Cé; the Annals of the Four Masters (AFM); the Annals of Clonmacnoise (A. Clon.); the Annals of Roscrea (A. Rose.); the Chronicum Scotorum (Chron. Scot.); the 'Annals of Boyle' (AB); Miscellaneous Irish annals (AD 1114-1437) (Ó hlnnse 1947); and Fragmentary annals of Ireland (Radner 1978). I have also made some use of the Latin and Irish lives of St Ciarán.
