Abstract
In this paper, based on my experience in field work in Ireland and Galicia, I deal with a comparison between two forms of subsistence agriculture: minifundismo (smallholding) in Galicia and rundale in Ireland, since the Galicia that I found in the 1960s had correspondences, in terms of cultural landscapes and social and-rural structures, with Ireland. My intention is looking for the origins of these two systems of production and the characteristics of social and territorial organizations which held it, in an effort to try to establish whether it is a process of Atlantic diffusion or the origins are separated and embedded in other processes.
