Abstract
ertain institutions, mechanisms and processes preserve the coherence of international water law, despite its proliferation and the diversity of its sources, within a unitary system of international law. These include the universalist instincts of international courts, routine legal codification, the integrative role of general principles, and the universal character of increasingly relevant human rights norms. ‘Convergence’ unifies and enriches modern international water law some 60 years after first being codified, assisting it in addressing challenges posed by the looming global water crisis through the gradual interpenetration and cross-fertilization of previously somewhat compartmentalized areas of international law
