Abstract
Some historians of Irish education have created an image of the 19th and early 20th century Treasury (in London) as a body antagonistic to Irish education, intent on preventing reform, cutting back on public expenditure and generally frustrating any efforts to improve Irish education. This paper draws on original documents in government archives in Dublin and London to challenge and disprove this myth.
