dc.description.abstractThis paper will describe and analyse the position of multi-denominational education in the Irish national school system since its foundation in 1831. The paper is in three sections - the first section gives an overview of the evolution of the system: the second section provides a factual description of the re-emergence of multi-denominational schools in the Republic of Ireland during the past 15 years: the third section raises a number of issues and challenges which face the multi-denominational sector.en
