dc.description.abstractIn this article we investigate the underlying fluid motion induced by internal water waves, coupled with surface waves, in a two fluid layer model. We employ a phase-plane approach to achieve a detailed Eulerian description of the underlying wave-field kinematics for linear travelling waves. Additionally, the qualitative motion of individual fluid particles is established by way of a Lagrangian analysis of the appropriate nonlinear dynamical systems.en
